What we collect
To create an account we ask for email, display name and password. That is the minimum needed to sign you in and to show who is who on the ranking. The password itself is never stored — only the result of a one-way function that cannot be reversed.
What is optional
Phone, country, state, city and the profile photo are optional, and nothing here requires any of them to play. The phone is only used to recover your account if you lose access to your email. Country and state, when filled in, enable the country ranking.
What we record when you play
Your games, your answers, how long each one took and the score. That is what makes the ranking and the statistics exist. We also keep the IP and browser of your sessions, for security — it is how we notice unauthorised access.
Cookies
Three, and none for advertising. One keeps you signed in, one identifies your game while you play without an account, and one protects the forms against forged submissions from another site. None of them follow you outside CineQuiz.
Who we share with
Nobody. We do not sell or hand over personal data. Movie data comes from TMDb, but the traffic goes from them to us — nothing of yours goes to them.
Your rights
You can download everything we keep about you, as a JSON file, right from your profile. And you can delete your account at any time, in the same place.
What happens when you delete
Your personal data is erased: the email becomes an irreversible code, the name goes away, the photo is removed from disk and the profile is cleared. Your games remain, with no link to you. That is deliberate: erasing them would change the average and the ranking of everyone who played alongside you, which would be unfair to third parties.
Signing in with Google or Apple
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive from the provider a unique identifier, your e-mail (Apple may hand over a relay address) and, from Google, your name and profile photo — the photo only becomes your avatar if the account has none yet, and goes through the same moderation as any uploaded photo. We never receive your password for those services or access to anything else. You can disconnect the provider in your profile.
Profile photos and reviews
Profile photos and reviews go through automated moderation before becoming public, which includes an artificial-intelligence analysis (OpenAI) of the submitted content — the image or the text, without your name. Refused content is neither published nor kept.
The app
The CineQuiz app (iOS and Android) uses the same account and data as the website. Stored on the device, encrypted, are what you downloaded to play offline (practice sessions), your watchlist and catalogue cache, your preferences and the session keys; if you enable biometric re-entry, the credentials are protected by the system's Face ID or fingerprint and erased when you sign out. The app does not use analytics or tracking services and does not request location, contacts, camera or microphone; the photo library is only reached through the system picker when you choose a profile photo. Notifications are delivered by Apple's and Google's push services (via Expo) and stay off until you choose what to receive. Each device gets an identifier for notifications and offline games; it is removed when you sign out.
