Adrian Brine

Adrian Stanley Brine (London, March 25, 1936 – Amsterdam, May 11, 2016) was an English-Dutch theater director and actor. He worked as such in the Netherlands, Belgium, and later also in France. Brine lived in the Netherlands from the 1960s onwards.

At the theater group Globe, Brine was the artistic director and directed, among other productions, the play "Equus" by the Englishman Peter Shaffer. At the Publiekstheater, he brought the play "Betrayal" by Harold Pinter to the stage. Furthermore, Brine directed a large number of independent productions, such as "Love Half and Half" with Mary Dresselhuys and Ko van Dijk, "The Price" by Arthur Miller, and the farewell performance of John Kraaijkamp sr.

In France, Brine received the prestigious theater award the Molière for his direction of "The Ideal Husband" by Oscar Wilde. In Belgium, he was honored as a Knight in the Order of the Crown.

As an actor, Brine appeared in films such as "Max Havelaar," "The Girl with the Red Hair," and "The Scorpion."

Adrian Brine was the life partner of the Dutch casting director Hans Kemna for more than fifty years.
