Biography

Bombolo, born Franco Lechner on **May 22, 1931**, in Rome (Lazio) and died on **August 21, 1987**, in the same city, was an Italian stage and film actor.

He is best known primarily as a character actor in genre films (mainly Italian erotic comedies and *poliziotteschi*) and as a supporting player to actors such as Tomás Milián, Enzo Cannavale, and Pippo Franco in roles based mainly on his physicality, facial expressions, use of onomatopoeia (his characteristic *"Tze-tze!"*), and vulgarities in Romanesco; he particularly gained his fame by playing the character of Venticello, a small-time thief and police informant, in nine out of the eleven films featuring Inspector Nico Giraldi. His character became familiar to the public and made him one of the most famous actors in Italian genre cinema of the 1970s and 1980s.
