Biography

Josef Bláha (born June 8, 1924, in Novo mesto, in present-day Slovenia, died December 6, 1994, in Prague) was a Czech film, theater, and television actor. He came from a Czech-Slovenian family, spending his early childhood in Yugoslavia, and from the age of eleven, he was raised in Prague. After the liberation of Czechoslovakia from Nazi occupation, he performed at the Ferenc Futurista Theater (1945–1946), and then he began studying acting at the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (1946–1950). While still a student, he made his film debut (1947) and guest-starred at the National Theater in Prague (1948–1949), and after graduating, he worked for one season at the theater in Hradec Králové (1950–1951). He then spent many years as an actor at the Prague Theater on Vinohrady (1951–1990).
