Biography

Marte Harell (German: Marte Harell; born Martha Schömig, married name Martha Hartl; January 4, 1907, Vienna – March 12, 1996, Vienna) was an Austrian actress.

Marte was born into the family of architect Rudolf Schömig. On February 2, 1930, she married film producer Karl Hartl. She studied acting under Margit von Tolnay and at Max Reinhardt's seminar. At the age of 30, she made her debut at the Theater in der Josefstadt. Later, she served in various German theaters. Thanks to her husband, Marte Harell made her film debut immediately in the leading female role in Géza von Bolváry's "Ball in the Opera" (1939), which was followed by several other well-known films. She most often received roles of strong women who determined the course of events in the plot.
