Biography

Preben de Neergaard (née Rathsack on May 2, 1920, in Farum, died July 22, 1990, in Charlottenlund) was a Danish actor and director, known from a number of Danish films, TV, and theater productions. Preben Neergaard was the son of cabaret star Ulla Rathsack de Neergaard and bank auditor Erik Rathsack. He graduated in 1939, after which his acting career began with an apprenticeship at the Royal Danish Theatre's school from 1940 to 1943, followed by employment at the theater until 1947 and again from 1952 to 1957. In the 1950s, he also performed at Apollo Teatret and Det ny Scala. In his later years, he became known for fine roles in various TV plays. Privately, Preben Neergaard was married six times, including to actress Birgitte Reimer. He was a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog. He died in 1990 and is buried at Ordrup Cemetery.
