Production

The series was created by Jonathan Tropper and adapted from Marissa Stapley's novel of the same name. Tropper serves as co-showrunner alongside Cassie Pappas. It is produced by Apple Studios alongside Tropper Ink with executive producers including Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, part of Candle Media. Anya Taylor-Joy is an executive producer through her production banner Ladykiller and also leads the cast. In December 2024, Lucky was given a series order by Apple TV, and Jonathan Van Tulleken signed on to direct and executive produce. Annette Bening and Timothy Olyphant joined the cast in January 2025, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Drew Starkey joined in February, Clifton Collins Jr. and Mo McRae in March, and lastly William Fichtner and Eric Lange rounded out the cast in April.

Filming began in Las Vegas in February 2025, also shooting in Los Angeles, and wrapped in July 2025. Fiona Apple and Amy Aileen Wood produced the series' title sequence track.

Release

Lucky was released on Apple TV on July 15, 2026, with the first two episodes available immediately and the rest on a weekly basis until August 19.

Reception

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 78% approval rating based on 49 reviews, with an average of rating reviews of 6.9/10. The website's critics consensus reads, "Anya Taylor-Joy is Lucky in an entertaining bit of thrilling fare that often promises more than it can deliver but never lets the audience down when it comes to action and intrigue." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 68 out of 100 based on 29 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.
